The actor who played Tony Claus was listed in the credits as Noah Beery, But this is actually Noah Beery, Jr. His father was a silent film star who died in 1946. Many times a man will drop the Jr. after his father dies and I guess this is what Noah did. His other appearance on PM, also involved serving a poisoned drink at a cocktail party where Noah Beery appears as the defendant. The case of the Hasty Honeymooner.

Next Week on TCOT Podcast we will discuss The Case of the Hasty Honeymooner Season 9 Episode 7

This episode should have 'last' somewhere in its title. This is the last acting performance for many of the people on this episode.

Ray Collins (Lt Tragg) makes his last appearance as the hard nose detective. Even though his name continues as a regular he never appears in anymore of the "Perry Mason" shows.

Also the always beautiful Elaine Stewart (plays Irene Grey) soon marries and quits acting. She did two game shows in the 70's but never acts for a TV or film again.

Byron Palmer (plays Harper Green) was a singer in the 50's and was a guest actor on a few shows. However after this acting job he never works in front of the camera again.

And then you have the sad case of Karyn Kupcinet (plays Penny Ames). she was found dead in her apartment. In fact she was dead before this episode aired in January of 1964.

Perry and Della’s love life (or lack thereof)

Were they on a date? Or was it work?

Dubbed "The First Lady of the Theatre" by a theatre critic, Cornell was the first performer to receive the Drama League Award, for Romeo and Juliet in 1935.

Dee spills the tea

In the final dinner scene, the wall behind Paul Drake in his close-up shots looks very different from what we can see of the restaurant background in the shots of the whole group at the table. During the first part of the wrap up scene, when paul is explaining about the smuggling, he is seated by himself with a plain wall behind him. Then when he says “wow, like that lady in Hamlet” he is seated between Perry and Della. Two totally different backgrounds. Obviously, this scene was filmed with two different sets at two different times.

You’ll want to go back and take a look.

That’s the tea!

Sidenote: When did they start calling it the IRS? The Commissioner of Internal Revenue was created in 1862 to assess the nation’s first income tax to fund the American Civil War. The temporary measure expired a decade later. In 1913, the Sixteenth Amendment authorized Congress to impose a tax on income and led to the creation of the Bureau of Internal Revenue. In 1953, the agency was renamed the Internal Revenue Service. Interesting that Della called it the Bureau. The Bureau of Internal Revenue is now named for the agency that assesses income tax in the Phillipines.

Dee Spills the Tea

The Nesbitt cabin on the lake should seem familiar to Perry and Della. According to billp, Perry stayed there in the TCOT Angry Mourner. It was also used in TCOT Watery Witness. it may have had some connection to the studio, cast or crew. Anyone notice that?

One goof: Lloyd Castle, on the stand, refers to Jenny Bartlett as Miss Barton. Did anyone notice that? Later, Perry correctly calls her Miss Bartlett.
